Roles In The Water

Love the ocean? Want to help others while building skills and confidence? At Townsville Picnic Bay SLSC, our in-water roles are at the heart of what we do—keeping our beaches safe and saving lives.

Become a Lifesaver – Bronze Medallion

If you’re 15 or older, the Bronze Medallion is your ticket to becoming a qualified surf lifesaver. You’ll learn vital skills in surf awareness, rescues, first aid, and CPR, and join a patrol team that watches over our beach. It’s the start of an exciting journey, with opportunities to gain advanced qualifications and take on leadership roles.

Just Starting Out? Try the Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC)

If you’re 13 or 14 or above, the Surf Rescue Certificate is the perfect way to get started. You’ll learn rescue techniques, basic first aid, and how to work as part of a patrol—all while having fun in the surf with your mates.

Whether you’re new to lifesaving or ready to take the next step, there’s no better place to learn than right here at Townsville Picnic Bay. Our experienced trainers and friendly team will support you every step of the way.

Roles On The Sand

Not everyone needs to be in the surf to save lives. At Townsville Picnic Bay SLSC, some of our most vital roles happen on the sand—supporting patrols, coordinating rescues, and providing expert care when it’s needed most.

First Aid & Advanced Resuscitation

When accidents happen, our first aiders are ready to respond. You’ll learn how to treat injuries, manage medical incidents, and assist with more advanced lifesaving efforts. These skills are valuable both on the beach and in everyday life.

These roles are perfect for members who want to help keep our beach safe without getting wet. Whether you’re new to surf life saving or looking to expand your skills, we’ll support you with training and a great team environment.

Roles In The Clubhouse

You don’t have to be on patrol to be part of the action. Townsville Picnic Bay Surf Life Saving Club is powered by dedicated volunteers who make things run smoothly behind the scenes—from the clubhouse to the BBQ.

Whether you have a few hours to spare or want to take on a bigger role, there’s always something you can help with.

Get Involved in Club Life

  • Join a Committee – Help shape the direction of the club by taking on a leadership or support role. It’s a great way to give back and keep the club strong.

  • Support Events – Lend a hand with fundraising, member nights, carnivals or presentations.

  • General Support – Help families get sorted for the season with friendly support and organisation.

  • BBQ Crew – Everyone’s favourite! Flip a few sausages and help raise funds for the club.

These roles are vital to the success of Townsville Picnic Bay SLSC—and you’ll be joining a welcoming, supportive community while you’re at it.

Blue Card Application

Surf Life Saving provides a fun, safe, and healthy environment for everyone who takes part. This policy supports Surf Life Saving Queensland’s (SLSQ) commitment to protecting the safety and wellbeing of all members, especially children and young people.

The policy is designed to protect all SLSQ members under 18 years of age from harm. This includes physical or emotional harm, neglect, exploitation, and all forms of abuse, including sexual abuse. Protection applies whenever they are under the supervision or care of a Surf Life Saving leader, instructor, trainer, manager, or coach.

This policy also outlines the legal requirements of the Blue Card system under the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000. It provides guidance to clubs, branches, and SLSQ on how to meet these requirements.

The Blue Card Screening Policy is a required part of the SLSQ Child and Youth Risk Management Strategy.
